How to Organize Your Home for Springtime by JeremyFoster1
The springtime is the perfect time of year to begin cleaning your house. With the weather getting warmer, you can begin reorganizing your house one room at a time. When beginning this process you should take a tour of your home to get an idea of which rooms need the most work. The closets are an important place to begin because this can make it easier to clean the rest of your house. This can be followed by the kitchen and living room. After these rooms are clean you can proceed to the garage where you can store unneeded items from around the house.
Start with your closets
Spring means packing away the winter clothes and pulling out the warm weather clothes. Organize a family closet-cleaning day. As you go through the winter clothing, sort out anything that you do not plan to wear next year. If the item is too worn out for giving to charity, toss it in the trash. Before you pack anything away, make sure that it is clean so that it stays fresh in storage.
Next, go through the Spring and Summer clothing before anything goes into closets or dressers. Do the same thing as you did with the Winter items. Will your daughter really wear that sundress this Spring or is it too last year? If she does not want to wear it, give it away. There is no sense in holding on to things that are not going to be worn.
By the time you are done, you should have whittled away at the clutter and made a dent in the work when it is time to pull out the Winter clothes again.
Spring-cleaning time is the perfect time to get those closet organizers in place. Check out the variety of closet organizers available and find a closet architecture that works for you. This is the ideal time to get those shoe shelves, hanging rods and other closet organizers installed so that you can use them and keep your home and closets clutter-free.
Spring clean your kitchen cabinets.
Empty your cabinet and pantry shelves and give everything a good dusting. This is the ideal time to get those kitchen cabinets organized. Add a revolving spice rack to keep all those little canisters and tins organized so that you can always put your hands on just the right seasonings. Pick up a rollout cabinet drawer organizer for pot and pan lids and cookie trays to free up storage space in your cabinets, and do the same for your storage containers. Other organizers for your kitchen include dish racks that hold an entire set of dishes in the space that usually holds your dinner plates and pantry door shelves that can hold all of your canned goods in space that is usually wasted.
Take care of the small stuff, too. Pick up organizer bins for gravy packets, or smaller sizes to hold tea bags and sugar packets neatly.
Move out to the garage to clean out storage space.
With the weather warming up, you may want to get to the gardening and lawn care tools easily and pack away the snow shovels. Open up the garage door to let in the spring sunshine â and make it easier to move everything outside. Once the garage is cleared and the floors swept down, put a little thought into organizing your space to make it easier to maintain. Get your tools up off the floor and shelves with wall organizer hooks that let you hang up just about anything. Put up a few sets of utility shelves to hold bulky items, storage bins and organizing trays. Make use of vertical space to store as much as possible, leaving your floor free for other things â like your car.
Tour the outside of your house
Take a notebook with you and walk around the outside of your house so you can make notes as you check gutters, downspouts, screens and other outdoor fixtures. This is also the time to clean your deck, porch, or patio. Check the floor and risers for any loose nails, and decide whether it needs a new coat of stain or finish. It will be a whole lot easier to do it now before you put out the patio furniture than later in the Spring when you have to move everything before you can get to the refurbishing.
Consider ways to organize your outdoor space to maximize your fun time. Ideally, you should have two storage containers on or near your patio â one for storing recreation equipment like volleyballs, tennis rackets and pool toys, the other for cooking equipment like charcoal and grill accessories. If you have the space for it, you might install a set of shelves just inside the door to the patio where you can keep items that move in and out of the house regularly â picnic tablecloths, condiment trays and other items that you use regularly.
Once you get organized, you should find that it is much easier to keep things clean and clutter free so that you can have an enjoyable summer.
